Hip Pain Treatment
Hip pain can be a distressing condition that affects individuals of all ages, impeding their ability to lead an active and fulfilling lifestyle. Athletes, in particular, often experience hip pain due to injuries, which can severely impact their performance and enjoyment of their chosen sport. However, there is hope for those suffering from hip pain, as focused Shockwave therapy combined with Magneto Transduction Therapy has emerged as a groundbreaking treatment option that offers rapid and effective relief.
The hip joint is one of the body’s largest weight-bearing joints, consisting of the femur (thigh bone) and the acetabulum (socket). Due to its complex structure and the stresses, it endures, the hip is prone to various conditions that can lead to pain and discomfort. These conditions include osteoarthritis, tendinitis, labral tears, trochanteric bursitis, and hip flexor strains.
Traditional treatments for hip pain typically involve rest, physical therapy, medication, and in severe cases, surgical interventions. However, shockwave therapy has emerged as an alternative hip pain treatment option that can provide significant relief without invasive procedures or lengthy recovery periods.

Physiotherapy
Historically, physiotherapy has played a crucial role in the management and treatment of hip pain. A skilled physiotherapist can assess the underlying causes of hip pain, whether it’s due to muscle imbalances, joint stiffness, or biomechanical issues, and develop a personalised treatment plan. Through a combination of manual therapy techniques, targeted exercises, and therapeutic modalities, such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation, physiotherapy aims to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, and restore functional movement patterns.
Shockwave Therapy
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) has emerged as a leading option for hip pain treatment, particularly for conditions like hip pain and trochanteric bursitis. Progressive clinics worldwide have witnessed the positive effects of shockwave therapy, making it a sought-after intervention for hip pain sufferers.
Moreover, shockwave therapy offers distinct advantages as a treatment option. It is non-invasive, eliminating the need for surgical interventions and their associated risks.
Shockwave Therapy & Hip Pain Research
There have been several clinical studies conducted on the effects of Shockwave Therapy (SWT) for Hip Pain Treatment. A study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine highlighted the efficacy of shockwave therapy in treating trochanteric bursitis. Patients who underwent shockwave therapy experienced significant short-term improvements in their condition, and the positive effects persisted even 12 months after treatment. These findings firmly establish shockwave therapy as an effective long-term solution for greater trochanteric pain syndrome. (1)
Building upon this research, a more recent study published in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery in August 2020 further reinforced the benefits of shockwave therapy for hip pain. The authors concluded that when combined with a specific exercise program, focused shockwave therapy (F-ESWT) proved to be safe and highly effective for greater trochanteric pain syndrome. With an impressive success rate of 86.8% at the two-month mark following treatment, this success was sustained throughout the follow-up period. (2)
These studies are in line with our own experience of successfully treating patients with hip pain including trochanteric bursitis.
For hip pain treatment we hold the handheld EMTT device over the affected area. The treatment is painless and non-invasive, and typically takes just a few minutes to complete. Patients may receive several EMTT sessions over the course of a few weeks, depending on the severity of their symptoms and the extent of their injury.
EMTT works by generating electromagnetic fields that penetrate the skin and underlying tissues. These fields can stimulate the production of growth factors and other signalling molecules that promote tissue repair and regeneration. EMTT can also help reduce pain and inflammation by increasing blood flow and reducing the activity of pain receptors in the affected area.
EMTT Therapy for Hip Pain
We are now using ElectroMagnetic Transduction Therapy (EMTT) in conjunction with Shockwave therapy as we have found the combination of the two treatments especially effective for dealing with hip pain and trochanteric bursitis..
EMTT is a non-invasive treatment that uses electromagnetic waves to stimulate healing in the affected area. The treatment works by producing a pulsed electromagnetic field that penetrates the tissues in and around the hip and stimulates cellular activity. This increased cellular activity can help to reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, and promote tissue repair, all of which can improve the problems associated with hip pain, especially in athletes.
It’s still early days to have details about clinical trials for hip pain using EMTT, but we expect more research to be conducted in the USA, Europe and further afield following our own positive experiences in using this specialist equipment as a hip pain treatment.
One of the major advantages of EMTT is that it is a non-invasive treatment that does not require any medication or surgery. This makes it a safe and convenient treatment option for patients who are looking for a non-invasive alternative to more invasive hip pain treatment.
We are one of the few clinics in the country offering this as a solution to this painful condition and we recommend you book an appointment soon.
